How to choose a chiropractor

Neck pain, low back pain, headaches, car accidents, sports injuries. These are all common reasons why people seek chiropractic care on a daily basis across the United States. However, deciding what chiropractor, or what type of clinic is best for your needs can be difficult.

Most chiropractors tend to believe in natural, conservative methods of
health care; however, there is no one philosophy that can define chiropractic care.  Doctors of chiropractic have different beliefs and ways of practicing, so it is best to ask for recommendations and researching chiropractic clinics before deciding on a primary care chiropractor.

Chiropractors do believe that the body has an innate ability to heal itself, and in general, have a great respect for the human body.  Chiropractors do not perform surgery or prescribe medications, but tend to facilitate the body healing itself through spinal manipulations, exercises, trigger point therapy, acupuncture, massage therapy, laser therapy, nutrition and ergonomic training.

Finding the right chiropractor for you and your family can take some time.  Because of the various methods of chiropractic care available, it is important to find a chiropractor who practices in a manner that works for your body.

Even with spinal adjustments there can be a variety of techniques.  Activator technique, Koren Specific Technique, drop table adjusting, and manual adjusting are all common adjustment techniques.  Some people respond to one type of adjustment better, or can even prefer how one type of adjustment feels.  It can be hard to know this until you have experienced several adjusting techniques,  and even been adjusted by several different chiropractors.

Finding just the right chiropractor is an important step in your health care journey.  Asking friends, family and co-workers for referrals can be a good starting point.  At West End Chiropractic and Wellness we having been helping patients in the Twin Cities area lead healthier lives.
