A strong and well defined core shows both strength and health, and although this seems to be one area that most people would like to tone the most in their body, it is an area that few achieve. Here are few key moves to try while working to get those washboard abs you’ve always wanted.
Russian Twist: Lie down on the floor placing your feet either under something that will not move or by having a partner hold them. Your legs should be bent at the knee. While holding a free weight, rotate your torso from left to right while keeping your abs tight.
Flat Bench Lying Leg Raise: Lie flat on your back on a bench with your legs off the end, remaining parallel to the ground. Place your hands back next to your head and grab the edge of the bench. Keeping your legs as straight as possible, raise your legs as high as possible, making sure that your abs are doing the work. Lower legs back down to the start position and repeat.
Plank: Begin on all fours. Make sure your hands are directly beneath your shoulders and your knees directly beneath your hips. The tops of your feet can either be flat on the floor or you can curl your toes if you choose. Keeping your core and glutes tight, hold for as long as possible.
Working on these exercises will help to strengthen your core muscles, but remember that is only one step. If you want the definition of toned, strong abs, remember that diet is 50% of the process!
